Also, I get treated with blood products made from plasma donations, so thank you for your donations/sacrifice! I wasn’t aware it was a painful process either.
Tyra seems to be under the mistaken impression that saying everything incredibly slowly makes her seem *less* villainous. The way the girls (Shandi especially) were treated is so heartbreaking.
Thank you for writing this. I thought I was trippin — but no! They really could have gone so much harder on Tyra, they could have named more specifically the harms experienced by contestants, especially Isis!! It just felt super disappointing to watch especially after all the build-up. I wanted to hear from more contestants and get a deeper dive too. All of the little girls who watched deserved more accountability from Tyra and Ken.
"It feels like Tyra used ANTM to go around the country, finding beautiful, young, promising young models so they’d never grow to outshine her."
This is it. This should be the official statement to accompany the documentary.
I am eagerly anticipating Lisa's documentary. I trust them to be honest. I don't trust Netflix editing contestants and commentators. I'm certain there are classic clips of Tyra being Tyra that they did not air (but recorded).
She bulldozed peoples lives and left most traumatised.
I don't understand a life of making hot ice cream in Australia. Good for her? Who knows.
(It is good to have you back! I ended up cancelling my subscription earlier in 2025 because it was so much money and you were not around. I am in awe of donating bone marrow. What a selfless and kind act. Family always comes first. And also your own mental/health! Hope you had a great 2025.)
The doc also did t go into how little these woman where paid. They gave them small daily stipends to live on during the show.
I’ll also never forget watching them shame transfemme Isis for not being more confident during a bikini shoot while camera zoomed in on her bikini bottoms. Tyra don’t ever claim her as yours when there was such intense trans shaming and phobia with production and the cast in that season. As a viewer it hurt my own young trans heart.
I know, it’s the Substack Ai reader. It’s my first time using it. They’re putting the wrong emphasis on the wrong syllable. Love your work, long time listener first time commenter.
So happy to get to read something from you again!

Sometimes I think The Swan was a fever dream, what an absolutely dystopian TV show.

I just wrote a piece about it too I’d love anyone’s feedback! https://open.substack.com/pub/whitneykira/p/i-was-rooting-for-you?r=2su498&utm_medium=ios
Tyra: How could we have been expected to know that blackface wasn’t ok? It was only the 2000s.
Shockin’

The Ai reader is not good. Hire humans please.

lol oh, I didn't know it did that now. I'm going to see if I can turn it off, I definitely didn't opt to turn it on!
Sorry, this was not the right place to complain. I’m still shook from Inspector Tyra 🕵️♀️
(I know this is a Substack thing)
